This movie is so much fun! Not for the squeamish. I saw Desperado and *hated* it; that was six years earlier and who knows, that may have changed, but OUATIM is one of my favorites. It's sheerly stupid as far as plot, but the total lunacy of it is what makes it fun. Rodriguez tells a ridiculous story in a compelling way. It's over-the-top to the point of self-parody, walking--but never quite crossing--that fine line between sublime and stupid.

Also, Rodriguez's 10 minute cooking school is so sexy it's unbelievable.

A friend of mine got me this for Christmas, and I watched it 30 times that first month. Anything else I say must be heard with that in mind.

I think this movie, although immensely popular, is vastly underrated/underappreciated. There is a lot more going on here than the superficial "ooh, shiny"--although, come on, Johnny, Orlando, and Jack Dav playing pirates, there is a LOT of shiny. But the movie is subtly witty, snarky and sweet, and it puts several interesting twists on the tried-&-true story formulas Disney is so comfortable with.

This movie is deeply flawed, but has enjoyable moments. A bit depressing to think that after all these millenia we're still fighting the same stupid war. On the other hand, Orlando Bloom is very pretty here. *shrug*
